

Westerling, Robert (Bob) Joseph, Sr. age 86, of Daytona Beach, Florida, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2013. Bob was born September 29, 1926 in Erie, Pennsylvania. He was a wonderful, caring and loving son, husband, father and grandfather. He was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. He was a veteran serving in the United States Army during World War II. After serving, he attended Gannon College in Erie, Pennsylvania. Upon graduation, Bob entered General Electric’s management training program and worked for over 40 years as an accounting executive with General Electric before retiring in 1987. He transferred from upstate New York to Daytona Beach in 1966 to work in General Electric’s aerospace program. Throughout his life, Bob was an avid and accomplished amateur golfer. In his senior year at Gannon College, he was selected Athlete of the Year for his performance on the golf team. Over the years, he has won numerous golf tournaments, including over 20 Club Championships; his most recent victory was in 2011 when he won the Club Championship at Land Harbor Golf Course in North Carolina. Bob and Jan Westerling spent many enjoyable and memorable summers in the North Carolina mountains after their marriage in 1995. While living in Daytona Beach, Bob had been a member at several local country clubs and is well known for his competitive spirit and gentlemanly demeanor. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Mary Westerling and his wife of 44 years, Elizabeth. Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Jan Westerling, sons and spouses Robert, Jr. and Diane Westerling of Holly Hill, Florida; Richard and Nancy Westerling of Knoxville, Tennessee; grandchildren Mary Westerling; Robert J. Westerling, III and wife Michele; stepchildren Brian Finnegan and wife Joy; Beth Chittenden and husband Robin, Edward Finnegan and fiancée Lynn; as well as step-grandchildren Chelsea Finnegan, Clayton Finnegan, Matt Chittenden and wife Shannon, Sam Chittenden and wife Amy, Erik Chittenden and wife Patricia, Brenna Finnegan and Cassidy Finnegan; and ten step-great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank all the staff at Hospice of Volusia/Flagler.
A mass of christian burial will be held 11:00AM Saturday August 31, 2013 at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 4675 S Clyde Morris, Blvd. Port Orange, FL. A time of visitation will be held from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 4815 Clyde Morris Blvd, Port Orange, FL.
