I was born on a tea and kina plantation on the slopes of Mount Semero in East Java. Also known as Kajoe Enak (Tasty Wood).
I was the youngest of five children born to Alice and Oscar Van de Graaff. I had three older brothers Louke, Frits, and Erich and one sister Conny, who was four and a half years older than me and we were very close. After her passing, Erich and I became close friends too. As children, we were all put in POW camps during WWII and during the Indonesian Freedom War.
In my adulthood we moved to the Netherlands. On the day of my arrival at the motel I met Jane Freeth waiting for the bus to go to work. It was love at first sight. I married her five years later. We have been married for 57 years.
I am very proud of my family. Our three girls Linda, Debby, and Heidi and their husbands, Rod, Mike, and Kevin and my five grandchildren, Patrick, Rachael and her husband Dakota, Sierra, Shane, and Travis.
I have had a happy life, and I will be at the gates of heaven waiting for you when your time comes. I love you all …and may God Bless you.
Rudy will be missed by all those that knew him and loved him. In lieu of flowers, please pray for the family and light a candle in remembrance or donate to your local Humane Society or at ALSAssociation.org.
