

Thomas J. Mellen, 71, of South Daytona, a retired letter carrier with the United States Postal Service, passed away with his family by his side on Wednesday, January 20th, 2016. Born in Troy, New York in 1944, he relocated to Florida in 1970 to raise his family. At 19 he joined the Army, serving in the Tank Corp from 1963 through 1964. He worked as a letter carrier for 35 years and was a Steward for the National Association of Letter Carriers. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and watching his Miami Dolphins play. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball and was an avid Boy Scout leader. In memory of predeceased daughter, Kimberly Ortiz, Thomas is survived by his wife, Kathleen Mellen, his sons, Thomas Mellen, Jr., and Alan Kilpatrick, his daughters, Patricia Boutwell, Deborah Mellen, Ashley Kilpatrick, Renee Macklem, Brenda Steele, Maureen Lukasavage, Corinne Parrillo and Kristen Schultze as well as his 23 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints located at 1125 6th Street in Daytona Beach, Florida on Saturday, January 30th, 2016, at 11 am.
