Walter "Tom" Schaefer

SCHAEFER, WALTER THOMAS (Tom) after a brief illness on Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Halifax Hospital, Daytona Beach. Tom was born in Queens, New York on September 3, 1941 and was a retired Battalion Chief from Seminole County Florida Fire Department. Tom was a Past Commander of the American Legion, Post 53, Sanford, Fl. He is the beloved husband of Mary Louise (Eberius) Schaefer and the beloved Father of Kevin Schaefer, (Patti) of Pardeeville, WI, and Tracy Cowell (Dave Stone) of Longwood, Fl. Devoted Grandfather of Brandon Cowell, Scott Cowell, Derek Cowell Shawn Stone, Nathan Kuruc, Zachary Greene, Keith Schaefer, Kristopher Schaefer and RJ Kuruc. He is also survived by his Father, Walter Schaefer, Wantagh, New York, and Brother Mark Schaefer,Wantagh, New York, brother Christopher (Bridget) Schaefer, Tarpon Springs, Fl. Sister and Brother in law, Ric and Joann Schoenweiss, Port Orange, Fl., Wayne and Denise Eberius, Dunedin, Fl. Theresa Eberius, Port Richey, Fl. and many nieces and nephews. He was an Army veteran and predeceased by his Mother, Irene, Wantagh, New York and Brother Michael, Wantagh, New York. A memorial service will be held Wednesday December 29, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, 4815 Clyde Morris Blvd. Port Orange, Fl.

In lieu of flowers donations to the Leukemia Society of Central Florida. Burial will be at a later date in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. Arrangements are under the care and trust of Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, Port Orange, FL.
