Camille Edward Albert, known to family and friends as "Cam” passed away peacefully in his sleep at home in Port St. Lucie, Florida, on April 26, 2024 at the age of 78, with his best friend and wife of 55 years, Pat by his side.
He was born on September 23, 1945, in Madawaska, Maine, grew up in Enfield, Connecticut, and raised his family in Montville, Connecticut. Cam is survived by his beloved wife and soulmate Pat, daughter Dawn (Carmen Baker), son Mike (Jennie), grandchildren Jack and Ben, and brother John (Nancy), Brother-in-law Bob Cyr and sister-in-law Joan Mastrangelo, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Adrien Lionel Albert, mother Rose F Albert, and brother Elmer Albert.
Cam lived life to the fullest and could light up a room with his quick wit and smile. He believed that a stranger is a friend you just have not met yet, remembered everyone’s name, and always got to know the people he interacted with. He was known for jokingly giving everyone a hard time, and loved it when they gave it right back. We also knew him as a man who would quietly lend a helping hand to family, friends, veterans, and those in need, but never sought or wanted recognition for it.
Cam graduated high school in Enfield, CT in 1964 and immediately enlisted in the US Navy where he proudly served four years, including two tours of Vietnam aboard the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany, and logged over 300 combat missions. He was a survivor of the tragic fire onboard the Oriskany on October 26, 1966, in which 44 sailors perished. Cam was honorably discharged in 1968. Cam was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Silver Star. His dedication and commitment to his country during his military service will always be remembered.
After his military service, Cam began his career as an electronics technician at Hamilton Standard working on the Apollo spacecrafts. He spent many years working in the nuclear power industry for both Northeast Utilities as well as Florida Power and Light. He finished his career owning and operating his own consulting business.
Cam was an extremely proud father and grandfather, and spent every moment he could participating in his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting and educational activities. Since retiring in 2016 he has enjoyed spending time with family, and especially enjoyed becoming “Poppy” to grandsons Jack and Ben, watching them play sports, boating, golfing, and fishing with them, and seeing them grow into the exceptional young men they have become.
A Memorial Service to celebrate Cam's life will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 12:30PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations to a veteran’s charity of your choosing would be appreciated.
Aycock at Tradition Life Celebration Center is assisting the family with the funeral arrangements.
