While our mum was all of those things, as we sat around sharing stories of her,
we kept arriving at a noun: GIFT.
On December 11, 1947, God gifted the world with Claudette Veronica Gordon.
She was born in Orange Hill, Jamaica, West Indies.
As a daughter, sister, wife, mother, nurse and friend, she was a gift to all.
She was a very beautiful woman, a remarkable soul and truly... one of a kind.
Throughout her illustrious life, Claudette worked tirelessly to provide shelter, comfort and opportunity for her children.
She was a woman whose parents and siblings, as well as her abundant family and friends, could always count on.
She was a friend to many who needed a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on or a word of wise counsel.
She cared for countless people while standing at a bedside, holding a hand or calming fears in her many decades of service as a nurse.
Claudette was not only a gift, but she was a person to whom the Lord also gave many gifts.
She was a masterful chef of Jamaican dishes.
If you were never blessed by her ackee and saltfish, dumplins, rice and peas, curry chicken, oxtail or goat head soup and so much more,
then may you pray that God has her on the planning committee for the Wedding Supper of the Lamb so you can *possibly* reserve a meal.
Claudette also had a green thumb; from fruit trees to flowers, she was a purveyor of all things earthly and green.
She loved her Ackee, JackFruit, and Banana trees as well as her yam, cassava and callaloo plants.
She also adored purple Orchids and her collection of many exotic plants and flowers, like Gladiolus and Calla Lilies.
We must also acknowledge her gift of fashion as she was a very "well, put-together woman".
From her fanciful dresses and shoes, bags and jewelry, to the all important wide brim and festive hats.
And her most important gift, hospitality.
You were always welcome, comfortable and well fed in Claudette's home.
Claudette's story cannot be complete without sharing the one she received as her greatest gift, our Lord and Savior.
Claudette proclaimed of His goodness to those who would listen.
She sang of His wonder as she served in the choir, and she modeled His love in her interaction with others.
On March 9, 2021, our Mum Claudette, went to be with Jesus.
She is survived by her loving children: Colleen, Christine, Sophia and Duane.
Her loving niece and nephew, Jenea and Jermaine.
She will be greatly missed by her wonderful GORDON siblings:
Avril, Berris, Christine, George (Deceased), Peter, Rena, Euphie, Whysley, Donette and Donald.
She's also survived by her wonderful FOSTER siblings:
Livingston, Juliet, Lily, Devon, Marcia and Ronald.
And lastly, she's survived by her ex-spouse, Linford Pinnock and David Richard Scott.
We also honorably mention her many extended family and friends who will miss her beautiful presence among us.
While our family in many ways feels like our gift was taken from us,
we know that in reality, Claudette was just sent on ahead of us.
We look forward to the day when we will see our precious gift again,
joining her in resting in the presence of the Perfect Gift.
