January 1, 1952 to February 26, 2022
Crisalida was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador on 1 January, 1952 to Dario Mendoza Silva and Lidia Burgos Plasencia, the youngest of 13 children. Crisalida mentioned that her mother being so grateful, named her newborn baby after that nurse who helped deliver Crisalida that New Year’s night. She grew up in Colimes, Ecuador where she was loved by everyone she met.
At a young age, Crisalida helped raise her 5 young nieces and 3 young nephews proving her dedication to her family. During difficult times she helped her mother during her passing. Despite life’s challenges, her warmth and love shined through.
As a young adult, she decided to move to New York City and start a new life. There she met a young handsome man from Colombia, Luis Antonio Melo. They soon realized they were meant to be together and married. They soon welcomed their son, John Melo (46), into the world. 3 years later they welcomed their daughter, Jennifer Melo (43), into the world.
They lived in New York City and made great friends and memories along the way. The time came for them to have a new start and they moved to South Florida. As before, Crisalida made new beautiful friendships. As her children grew and they began to start their own families, Crisalida and Luis welcomed their granddaughters with pride to the world, Danah Crisalida Melo, Ava Lorraine Rodriguez, and Olivia Grace Rodriguez.
The time came for Luis to say goodbye and Crisalida stayed with him till the very end. Despite her sadness she looked forward to being with her children, granddaughters, and the adored family dog Jojo. She accomplished her dream to travel to Italy with her children.
She fought hard to hold on to her life but the time came to say goodbye to all the family and friends she touched throughout her life. On 26 February, 2022 on a warm sunny Saturday morning surrounded by her children and friends, she peacefully said goodbye.
She’s survived by her two children John Melo (Kristina), of Gloucester Virginia, Jennifer Melo Rodriguez (Osvaldo), of Port St. Lucie Florida, granddaughters, Danah (16), Ava (11) and Olivia (10). Her brothers Arnaldo and Andres, her beloved sister Rosario, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She will be loved and missed always.
