Mary Ann was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, the daughter of Kathryn Berding and Elmer Daly. A graduate of Seaton High School, she went on to attend Purdue University. The first day of freshman year she met Bob Hasenfus, the love of her life. They married the day after graduation.
Mary Ann and Bob settled in New York City, Bob’s hometown, moving to Long Island in 1958, where they raised their growing family. A homemaker most of her married life, Mary Ann returned to the workforce when her kids were grown, spending 20 years in the registrar’s office at New York Tech. She and Bob reveled in retirement, playing golf, traveling the world, visiting grandchildren and enjoying each other’s company. After 59 years of marriage, Bob passed away in 2013, a loss she never fully recovered from.
In 2017 Mary Ann moved to Port St Lucie, Florida, to be close to her son, Tom, and resided there until her death. A loving mother and grandmother, Mary Ann was known for her dry sense of humor and loving embrace. She considered herself a true New Yorker and was a die hard New York Mets fan. She loved to read, debate politics and prayed she would live until November so she could vote against Trump.
She is survived by four children, Mary Newhouse (Neil), Robert (Cynthia), Suzanne Meyer (Kurt) and Laurie Conway. Her son, Thomas, predeceased her by just four months. Additionally, she leaves eight grandchildren, three great-granddaughters, a brother, Dennis Daly (Linda) and sister, Lynn Daly.
Mary Ann will be interred with Bob at a later date.
