Robert Alexander Diaz, 66, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Queens, Robert was known for his athleticism, smooth style, and deep love of music. In his late teens and early twenties, he became a DJ in the 1980s New York City nightclub scene, where his energy and charisma made him unforgettable. He later moved with his young family to Hoboken, New Jersey, before relocating to Port St. Lucie, Florida in 1997, where he began working in the car business as a finance manager and later as a general sales manager.
Robert had a larger-than-life personality. He was quick-witted, entertaining, and could imitate just about anyone. He had a natural ability to adapt to any room, always bringing humor with him. He was also a great dancer and loved getting people up and moving. He loved the beach and spent as much time there as he could. A lifelong Republican, he had a strong interest in politics. He was a loyal New York Giants fan, later becoming a Buffalo Bills fan at the insistence of his son-in-law, Timothy.
More than anything, family meant everything to Robert. He is survived by his mother, Maria Diaz of Port St. Lucie, Florida; his sister, Maria “Lourdes” Hackett of Ray Brook, New York; his former wife and lifelong friend, Denise DeFeo (mother of Jade and Jared), of Port St. Lucie, Florida; his daughter, Jade Diaz Schaefer, and her husband, Timothy, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, with whom he shared a very close bond; his grandsons, Jaxon and Gavin Schaefer, who he loved more than anything; his son, Jared Diaz of Orlando, Florida, who he was always very close to, bonding over their shared love of music, movies, and getting people to dance; and his daughter, Ocean, and son, Alexander “Cruze,” of Raleigh, North Carolina.
Robert will be remembered for his humor, his personality, and the way he made people feel comfortable. He will be missed by so many, especially by his children and grandchildren.
A Visitation of Family and Friends will be held on April 11, 2026 at 11:00, followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00. Both to be held at Aycock at Tradition, 12571 SW Tradition Parkway, Port St Lucie, FL.
