Roberto was born on November 26, 1942 to Julio and Lilia Fernandez in Belén de Umbría, Colombia. Shortly after graduating high school, he moved to the United States in 1965. Once he arrived, he joined the U.S. Army and promptly deployed to South Korea, proudly serving in the Korean DMZ conflict.
After his time in the military, he studied Business at night while working for Bankers Trust during the day. After 34 years working in the bank, he retired as Assistant VP of Wealth Management in 2005. He spent time caring for his two youngest children in Port Saint Lucie, Florida. Roberto enjoyed many hobbies and activities, such as soccer, fishing, and going to the casino, and was always quick with his jokes. He leaves behind his loving wife, Patricia Fernandez, four beautiful children, Julian, Gustavo, Vanessa, and Sebastian, and five wonderful grandchildren, Miguel, Laila, Alan, Matthew, and Emily.
Services will be held at St Bernadette Catholic Church on September 3, 2022, at 10:00 am and will be followed by a celebration of life at Hilton Garden Inn. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the Fisher House Foundation on behalf of Roberto Fernandez, an organization dedicated to helping veterans.
