Angelina Esposito Stuckart, age 96 of Anthoine Street, died Saturday December 21, 2013 at Mercy Hospital after a short illness.
She was born in Portland on September 8, 1917 the daughter of Domenico and Antonia DiBiase DiDominicus. She attended Portland schools until 1935 when her father died and she needed to stay home to help her mother care for her 3 brothers.
She met and married her husband Louis J. Esposito in 1941 together they worked tirelessly both outside and inside the home to provide for their five children. Angelina worked full-time for the former Catirs Department Store and Benoits as a seamstress and later for Jordan Marsh as head of alterations. At home Angelina cooked many delicious meals and mouth-watering desserts, while cleaning and providing a loving and nurturing environment for her family. She always gave to others. When you came to her home you had to have something to eat, always. When the next generation of family and friends began having children, she was there to teach them how to take care of their babies. She would use her expertise and skills to alter shirts, suits, dresses, and a wedding gown for family and friends as well as making matching dresses for her granddaughters. She would use her cooking skills to bake the best chiffon cake, pitzelle, biscotti, anisette, wine and Italian filled cookies for her family, friends and for church events. Square Pizza making was another favorite which she made from scratch. At Easter she baked each of her children and grandchildren a cookie shaped like a doll or a horse.
Angelina always found time to be involved in all of the children’s activities and interests, and helped with fundraising, sewing or whatever needed to be done. She always did for all and gave to everyone from her heart and with unconditional love.
One of her great accomplishments was getting her driver’s license at age 56 on her first attempt.
She was a communicant of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, and was a member of the Sacred Heart Sodality at the church where she went with the Sodality on a trip to Atlantic City. Angelina hit the jackpot while playing the slot machine and was so excited she became frustrated and didn’t know what to do, so management told her to be patient until the machine stopped.
In 1991, Angelina would marry Joseph A. Stuckart. They shared many happy times together shopping and traveling to east coast for two years before Joseph died in 1993.
She is predeceased by her first husband Louis J. Esposito in 1980 and her son Capt. (USA) John L. Esposito, MD.
She leaves her daughter Lucy A. Esposito of Portland, three sons; Anthony L. Esposito, MD and his wife Tova of Auburndale, Mass, Joseph D. Esposito of Portland, Louis J. Esposito, Jr., and his wife Lauren of Calais, her former daughter-in-law, Susan Esposito of Eastport, seven grandchildren; Christina (DiFiore) and her husband James Martel, Debra (DiFiore) and her husband Matthew Geren, Michael and his wife Kimberly Esposito, Elizabeth Esposito and her fiancée Matt Frost, Paul Esposito, Kathleen Esposito, Jonathan Soyt, and five great-grandchildren; Noah, Gwyneth, Sydney, Hannah & Jacob.
