Portland-Anthony “Tony” P. Discatio, 61, passed away Wednesday December 15,
2010 at Maine Medical Center after a long illness. Tony was born in Portland on December 20, 1948, one of seven children of Joseph and Mary Discatio.
Tony graduated from Portland High School and attended the University of Maine. Tony was proud of his Italian heritage and was a great fan of “The Sopranos” series. His favorite band was Queen with AC/DC being a close second. He was a top notch dresser with an outstanding wardrobe. He was a major neatnik and both his apartment and his car were always impeccable.
Tony was an avid sports fan. Although he enjoyed watching the New England Patriots, he most often rooted for the underdog. His favorite team was the Cincinnati Bengals. He had an incredible memory for details. Tony was also a huge animal lover with his dogs Bayley and Sebastian being two of his very best friends.
For those who knew him best, Tony had a kind, generous and sympathetic heart. The family is so very grateful that his struggles are finally over and that he can now rest in peace.
Tony was predeceased by his mother Mary J. Discatio, his brother Joseph F. Discatio and his sister Rose Walsh.
Tony is survived by his father Joseph L. Discatio, his brothers Louis A. Discatio and Frank E. Discatio, his sisters Katherine I. Discatio and Teresa Reo and also the love of his life Jane Gardner. Although Tony was never blessed with children of his own, he loved his stepchildren Jeff, Joel, Laurie and Cheryl very much. He is also survived by 12 step grandchildren, 4 step great grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The Discatio family would like to send special thanks to the staff at Southern Maine Dialysis Center and also to the 5th floor Kidney Unit of Maine Medical Center. The family is very grateful to Tony’s long time doctor, Dr. James Wasserman, who became a much loved friend and confidant.
