

Curtis William Bixby, 92PORTLAND - Curtis William Bixby, 92, a longtime resident of Portland, passed away on May 3, 2016, at Gosnell Hospice House following a brief illness. He was born in Newton, Mass., a son of Leland C. and Edith C. (Fuller) Bixby. He enlisted in the US Marine Corp where he served in the South Pacific on the USS Cowpens during WWII. After the war, he moved to Portland, and began working for Parker-Danner Construction Company in South Portland, where he was the leading salesman in Maine. He ended his working career at Porteous, Mitchell & Braun as one of their top salesmen. Upon retirement at the age of 72, he finished his college education which he began at Oberlin College after leaving the service, graduating at the University of Southern Maine with honors. One of his biggest passions during retirement was attending Fit To Live, a senior fitness program which he attended three times a week. He also had great passion for the Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics.
He was predeceased by his wife, Margery Bixby in 2006 and a brother Robert L. Bixby. He is survived by his daughter Nancy B. Sosa, son in-law, Ignacio Sosa of Newport Beach, Calif.; a grandson, Nicholas Sosa and his wife Ellie of Boston, Mass., a granddaughter, Lucy Sosa of Venice, Calif.; and his brother-in-law, John Burnham of Portland.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend a time of visitation from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2016, at Jones Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 6, at Woodfords Congregational Church, 202 Woodford St., Portland. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Portland.
