11/25/1938 - 10/26/2023
South Portland, ME- David J. Crichton, Sr. passed peacefully on October 26, 2023, at the age of 84; just shy of his 85th birthday. While he will miss his family dearly, as they him, he said that he had a good life.
He was born in Mars Hill, Maine on November 25, 1938, to Robert and Glenda Brown Crichton, following which the family moved to Houlton and then to Auburn to accommodate the needs of his father, whose job at the IRS necessitated these moves. David went to Husson College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
David joined the U.S. Navy and was a medical corpsman and pharmacy technician during his service years; he also ran the 35MM motion projector. While in the Navy, David met Richard (Dick) Marcinko, founding Commander of SEAL Team 6. This was the unit that conducted the raid and killed Osama bin Laden in 2011. Following his Honorable Discharge in 1960, he worked for Pratt and Whitney Aircraft and then for Casco Northern Bank for over 10 years as Assistant Manager and Audit Assistant. Though he lived a quiet and rather solitary life in his recent years, he was an avid pool player, often entering pool tournaments; and he loved cribbage. He also loved his sweets and treats; so much so, that it’s hard to believe he wasn’t Diabetic.
David was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Glenda Brown Crichton and his sister, Patricia DiFrederico. He leaves behind his sister’s children, niece Jody, and nephews, James, Mark and Robert; a stepson, Mark Cain, a stepdaughter, Kim Ouellette, and a sister-in-law, Pat Benner.
David has two (2) children with his former wife Katherine; David J. Crichton, Jr. of Bangor, ME and Margaret (Peggy) Crichton Mulholland of North Carolina. He leaves behind David, his wife, Michelle, and their children/his grandchildren, Benjamin, MacKenzie and Nicholas; and Peggy, her husband, Glenn, and their daughter/his granddaughter, Haley, who is in the Air Force.
David also leaves behind his beloved wife, Patricia (Pattie), her children/his stepchildren, Susan Pomerleau of Portland, ME and Terri Marlen of Lake Worth, FL; Susan’s husband, Jim; Susan’s children/his step-grandchildren, Daniel (Danny) and Anna; and Terri’s daughter/his step-granddaughter, Lindsay Marlen and her son/his step-great-grandson, Jackson.
While David was a stoic man, who asked for very little, and lived a simple life, he loved his family dearly. Per his wishes, there will be no visiting hours and he will be cremated. He would, however, like you to keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.
The family thanks St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation and Residence who provided care for David this last year, and to Hospice of Southern Maine who helped provide care during his last two (2) weeks with us. The assistance, care, compassion, and insight of all was greatly appreciated. It takes a special person to do this work, and the family truly appreciates all that was done for David this last year, and for the care, concern, and support shown to his family.
