Diane was born on April 22, 1964, the daughter of David D. Selleck and Dorothy Ann (Dickey) Selleck in Portland, Maine. She was the joy and delight of her family and friends in the Yarmouth area. She graduated from Yarmouth High School with honors and special recognition for playing the bassoon in the band. She was a Girl Scout and a confirmed member of First Lutheran Church where she was an active member of Luther League. Diane could make everything beautiful and excelled in art and languages. In 1986, she graduated from the University of Maine at Orono, majoring in Spanish. While a student she worked in the Library and met James M. Tarr whom she married in 1989.
Diane was a devoted wife and mother, receiving great enjoyment in the accomplishments of her daughters and husband. They made their home in Laconia, N.H. for many years before moving to Virginia three years ago, and for nearly a year in Chesapeake where she attended the Oak Grove Methodist Church. She and Jim enjoyed cooking unusual meals together, entertaining family and friends. She liked “playing in the garden”. This year her garden produced beautiful bouquets of gladiolas that she presented to her new neighbors. She enjoyed music, camping on the Maine coast and at the Lake in South Hiram, Maine.
Diane was predeceased by her grandparents Mr. & Mrs. L.M. Selleck of Yarmouth and Dr. & Mrs. H.C. Dickey of Old Town, Maine. She is survived by her husband of nearly 23 years James M. Tarr of Chesapeake, VA and by her daughters Kathryn Teresa Tarr of Fredricksberg, VA and Jennifer Alida Tarr of Chesapeake, VA, her brothers David D. Selleck, Jr. and his wife Helen of Portland and Stephen M. Selleck and his two children Sarina M. Selleck of Portland and Burlington, VT and Isaac H. Selleck of Portland and niece Kayleah Davis of Tucson, AZ and her parents David and Dorothy Selleck of Topsham.
