

Doris was born on July 9, 1926 in Portland, Maine to Henry and Lillian Osterberg. Doris graduated from Deering High School in 1944, and went on to become the office manager at the Portland, Maine Bible Society.
Doris married Forest Barter on May 28, 1949 and they were married for 64 years. They had two sons, David Linwood and Bruce Henry Barter. Doris was predeceased by her parents, her brother Eugene Henry, her husband Forest, and both sons David and Bruce Barter.
Doris was a Campfire girl, a lifetime member of the First Baptist Church in Portland, Maine, and also a choir member and deaconess. Doris was an active member of the Gospel Crusaders group in Portland, Maine, involved with the Billy Graham crusade of the 1950's, and a committee member of the Christian Women's Society of Portland, Maine. For many years Doris was also a member of the "Birthday Girls."
Doris and her husband were devoted grandparents, always attending their sports and activities events.
Doris is survived by her loving sister Marguerite, and her loving brother-in-law Thelman G. Weimer of Connecticut and their families. Doris is also survived by her very special daughter-in-law Patricia Barter of Gray, and daughter-in-law Linda of Oregon, her grandchildren Erin, Sarah, Nicole, Scott and Rebecca, great-grandchildren, Cameron, Leah, Alina, Connor, Jakob, Dana, Cora, Emma and Henry, and many nieces, nephews, and special friends.
We would like to thank Doris' special friend Anita Day, who helped care for Doris these past few months, Doris' nephew Jimmy, and grandson Scott, for their help in many times of need helping Patti and Marguerite. We would also like to thank Betsy Paulding for her caring support of Doris all these months. Our thanks also to all the wonderful people of The Northern Light Hospice staff and especially Doris' nurse Vanessa for her compassionate care the last two days of Doris' life.
Friends and family are invited to a time of visitation on Saturday, December 6 from 1PM – 2 PM followed by a memorial service at 2 PM at The First Baptist Church, 360 Canco Road, Portland, Maine with Pastor Pete Hasbrouck officiating.
