

Windham – Dorothea Agnes Dunton, 92, passed away peacefully on January 21st due to complications with Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Portland, Maine on August 29, 1923. After graduating in 1942 from Scarborough High School, she married William Burnell. While he was serving in the army, she traveled with him working in several defense plants supporting the war effort. In 1945 she returned home to give birth to their daughter. Shortly after they divorced and she met and married Wayne Dunton. They lived in Portland and Westbrook where they raised their two sons and her daughter. She and Wayne enjoyed country music, woodworking, crafts, camping and spending time with family and friends. Their home was always busy with friends and family joining in on crafting, sewing, quilting and baking. They happily welcomed all. In addition to working 28 years for SD Warren, she started her own successful specialty cake business – including wedding cakes. Dorothea was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
Dorothea was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years of marriage, Wayne Dunton. She is survived by her daughter, Cecilia Ann Sturgeon and husband Edward; her sons, Wayne Dunton Jr. and wife Jane, Laurence Dunton and wife Beverly. She was Grammy to 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to attend a time of visitation from 4:00 – 7:00 pm Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Jones, Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. in Portland Maine. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 am in the funeral home with a reception to follow. Interment will be at Brooklawn Memorial Park.
