Dorothy Martell

Portland-Dorothy M. Martell, 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday July 12, 2012. She was born in Portland on January 19, 1929 were she spent her entire life. After graduation from Portland High School, she married her high school sweetheart, Joseph Martell, and they settled in Portland to raise their two children. Dorothy was a very active member at the Immanuel Baptist Church. After raising her children she devoted much of her time volunteering for many charitable organizations. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph, who died too young. She is survived by her daughter Laurene Mershimer of Westbrook and her son Gregg Martell and his wife Jessie of Tetonia Idaho. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Thursday July 19, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Immanuel Baptist Church, 156 High St. Portland. Interment will follow at Brooklawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Dorothy’s memory to the Salvation Army, Portland Chapter, PO Box 3575, Portland ME 04104.
