

Dwight was born December 8, 1931 in Portland Maine. He worked for 44 years in the Portland Postal Office starting as a clerk and working in the registry room for many years. He is a Veteran of the Korean War serving in the Marine Corps, followed by a dedicated service in the Army National Guard as a Construction engineer. He was a life time member of the local VFW Post 6859 and served as the Color Guard Captain. He was avid New York Yankee's fan much to the chagrin of his wife who was a Boston Red Sox fan. He enjoyed cycling for many years. It was not unusual for him to do a century ride on his days off. He passed his love a cycling to his children. He was an avid horseshoe player and travelled extensively through New England playing in tournaments. He will be remembered for playing Santa Claus at family functions and the annual children’s party at his VFW. He will also be remembered for his tongue and cheek jokes with a dry sense of humor,
He was predeceased by parents Mary Selberg and Philip Alden MacVane and brother Merle MacVane and brother in-law James Lyle Burdwood.
He is survived by: loving and devoted wife of 46 years: Lindola Chase MacVane; Siblings: brothers John MacVane and his wife Ginny of Gorham and Philip Alden MacVane and his wife Joan of Hollis; sister Barbara Burdwood of Standish, and Merle's wife Evelyn Strickler of Michigan; children: daughter Debra MacVane Jensen and her fiancé Bob Tolliver of Buxton, daughter Lisa Kelley of South Portland, son Dwight MacVane and his wife Monica of Standish, and, son Kevin MacVane and his partner Emilio Archibeque of California; and, grandchildren: Jennifer and Patrick and Skye Kelley, Lauren Jensen, Damion and Adriana MacVane, and Zachary, Bailee, Nathan.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of Visitation on Wednesday May 8, 2013 from 11A.M.to 1 P.M. followed by funeral services at 1 P.M. at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland, Maine. A reception will be held following the funeral service. All information regarding the reception will be given at the funeral home. Interment will held on Friday May 10, 2013 at 9 A.M. in the Maine Veterans Cemetery. Committal services and military honors will be conducted at the chapel in the cemetery new section.
