Elizabeth (Betty) Julia Houston

Portland – Elizabeth (Betty) Julia Houston 94 died Thursday June 17, 2010 at The Cedars. Born May 20, 1916 in Portland she was the daughter of the late Oscar D. and Louise Garcelon Haskell. She graduated from Portland High School in 1934 and was a lifelong homemaker. She also worked for many years in Pediatrics at Mercy Hospital.

She was all about family and was truly one of a kind, She loved cooking, Irish music, travel, knitting and sewing, lilies of the valley, and lilacs. Most of all she loved family gatherings and especially the babies.

She was pre-deceased by her husband David B Houston, a son David B Houston Jr., and a great grandson Quinn Sullivan Tetzlaff.

She is survived by six children; Jean Sullivan of South Portland, Janice Punsky of Jacksonville, FL. Kathleen Williamson of Madison, WI, Maureen Brennan and her husband Robert of Summerville, SC., Kevin Houston of Old Orchard Beach, Brian Houston of Portland. Fourteen grandchildren; Karen Haggerty , John Sullivan, Kelly Dole, Colleen Tetzlaff, Katie Leary, Bruce Houston and Dawna Houston; Shawn Brennan, Robert Punsky, Kevin and Michael Punsky, Jocelyn Campbell, Jed Williamson, and Jami Cook. Twenty one great grand children; Hattie and Griffin Tetzlaff, Joseph and Jacob Haggerty, Dillon and Paige Leary, Kelsey and Skye Dole, Nicole, Elizabeth and Sarah Cook, Javier and Mac Sullivan, Timothy, Carly and Luke Brennan, Brooklyn, Caitlyn, Braylyn and Reagan Punsky and Juliana Campbell, her sister in law; Clare Haskell of Auburn and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be Sunday June 20, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland.

Prayers will be recited Monday June 21, 2010 at 9:15 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church 673 Stevens Ave. Portland.

Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery South Portland.
