Portland – Ernestine F. Salamone Morin, wife of Raymond V. Morin, passed away on Friday, January 14th 2011 in Portland after a long illness. She lived in Portland all her life and was the daughter of the late Ernest and Rose (Richio) Salamone. She grew up on Olympia Street in East Deering. She graduated from Portland High School class of 1955, where she was a member of the ski club and was also a member of the Delta Phi Sigma sorority. She retired from Hannafords after 25 years of service.
Her greatest joy were her children and grandchildren and spending time having them all around her. Most weekends there was always a visit for lunch or supper from at least one of them and more often several of them.
Ernestine and her husband Ray celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last April.
She was a communicate of St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church.
She enjoyed going to the beach or the lake especially Sebago Lake where she and her family and extended family spent many summers at camp or at the State Park. In more recent years, sitting in the sun on her back deck seemed like a day at the beach for her. She loved going to Foxwood Casino and looked forward to the monthly trip on the bus with her sister Eugenia and her Aunt Franny and Aunt Maddy, or Wednesday mornings playing Scat at the Italian Heritage Center where she was a lifetime member.
Besides her husband, she leaves her six children, Teresa of Portland, Dana and his wife Kathy of Standish, Patty and her husband Michael, Michael and his wife Peggy, Heather and her husband Ricky all of Portland, and Nikki and her husband Morgan of Windham; two sisters, Camilla Vassar and her husband William and her sister, Eugenia Norris and her husband, Ronald; grandchildren: Nicholas, Christopher, Lindsay, Cassie, Sophia, Thomas and Patrick. Also, survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
