Herbert Henry Blake

Herb was a loyal and hardworking man who loved and provided for his large family so unselfishly. He was a devout follower of Christ and served his church well as a trustee, usher and church bus driver.

Herb served his country during the Korean War in the army as a Corporal. He was always proud of his service in the U.S. Army. He left the army and began his lifelong career as an 18-wheeler truck driver. He worked for Congdon Transportation, Associated Transport and Red Star Express and retired in 1989. He spent his 35 years of retirement working in the yard, babysitting and loving his grandchildren, caring for his mother-in-law, and helping all his children with house moves and repairs. He was a devoted family man. He married his wife, Doreen, in 1955 and would have celebrated 69 years of marriage in July.

He was predeceased by one daughter, Laura Blake of Jacksonville, FL. He is survived by his loving wife, Doreen Blake, and 5 of their 6 children - Guida Mucciaro of Torrington, CT, Karen Spiller of Old Orchard Beach, ME, Janet Perkins (David) of Saco,ME, Robyn Hubbard (Greg) of Wyomissing, PA, and Herb Jr. (Cindy) of Buxton, ME. He will be sadly missed by 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Herbert was the last survivor of seven siblings.

Visiting hours will be held from 3-4 pm on Saturday June 1, 2024, at Emmanuel Assembly of God, 1571 Washington Avenue, Portland, Maine, where a Funeral service will follow at 4 pm. Refreshments after the funeral. Graveside Committal at 11 am on Monday June 3, 2024 at Brooklawn Memorial Park, 2002 Congress Street Portland, Maine.
