Hugh was born in Quincy, MA on September 22, 1940 the son of Hugh K. Sr. and Virginia R. Sass Paton and attended Whitman High School before attending Washington & Lee University where he majored in History and graduated with the class of 1962. He worked for 20 years in the banking industry and real estate investment before his retirement and beginning his second career at LL Bean where he worked for 12 years. Some of Hugh's favorite things to do were New York Times crossword puzzles, always doing them in pen while he sat at the local coffee shop with his friends. He was a reader of political espionage novels and was considered a civil war buff by his friends and family. He loved to watch Jeopardy calling his sister after the final question to see if she would be able to answer the question! When younger he traveled extensively for both work and personal enjoyment. Even though he grew up in Massachusetts, he was an avid New York Yankee fan just like his mother was.
He is survived by his sister Elizabeth and her husband Frank Childs of New Hampshire; two nieces Meredith Bell of New Hampshire and Melissa Childs of Peaks Island; as well as 6 great nieces and nephews.
There will be a celebration of his life on Sunday, January 10, 2016, at 2pm at the American Legion on Peaks Island.
