This was Dad and me - he had just had quadruple bypass surgery a few weeks prior and we were out walking!! This was over 20 years ago

This is from my last visit to Portland last summer - Dad was still making his classic funny face 🤣🤣

Dad was very important to me and we stayed in touch over the phone quite a bit over the years. Today I very much miss being able to call him up and talk about things we were both up to and to laugh together. Whenever the band Chicago comes on now I miss him even more - Dad was a drummer and a great influence on my siblings and me in getting into music.

As my three brothers, two sisters, and I grew up I was so impressed by how much Dad sacrificed for us and Mom. He worked so many years as an optician and for almost all that time he worked six days a week with just one week of vacation per year. I don't know if I could have kept up that pace, it's so impressive to me and I appreciate it all so much. He also always managed to get us to a beach and cottage or something similar for that one week of vacation he got each year - and it was so fun with us all together! Dad and Mom really went all out bringing us up and it was a great childhood.

Dad had the most amazing sense of humor that rubbed off on us all - that is one of the things I will miss most about him. We laughed so hard watching and quoting things like Laurel and Hardy and the Three Stooges together. We had lots of fun silliness in so many other ways too.

I have 10 of his models hanging from the ceiling here where they will always be - he was a major aviation buff and that was another thing we had in common and liked to talk about. Even though he drove a tank in the Army and served all of us in Germany in the 50s (thanks Dad!!), his true love was that of flight.

I miss Dad so much and keep thinking I can still talk to him - which I'm still doing actually. I think he can hear and see us from the other side up there. I love you so much Dad!! Rest in peace. Love, Chris

James Lloyd Fournier, born on May 11, 1938, passed away on April 11th, 2026, on his youngest son’s birthday, at the age of 87. He had long lived with cardiac and respiratory illness.

He leaves his beloved, beautiful wife, Anna Jane, and their six children, Christopher, Anthony, Marie, Michelle, Philip, and Joseph. He leaves many grandchildren and two great grandchildren. 

Jim loved the power of nature, and if there was a thunderstorm back in the 80’s, he could be found on the old porch on Wolcott St, smiling up at the sky, singing “I love a rainy night “.  He loved the ocean, especially the crashing waves at Two Lights; we spent many Sundays there, picnicking and boulder scrambling while he soaked in the majestic views. He loved laughing and having a good time with family and friends. He loved old shows and movies and roared with laughter when his kids visited and watched old comedies with him. He was almost always ready to laugh.

We will miss our dear father terribly. If we could ask him if he ever got his wish, we know what his answer would be. We hope you’re still laughing, Dad.
