In James' own words and as he wanted his obituary to read: " I was born, I lived, and I died".
James was born in Chelsea MA to the late Joseph Silva and Louise (Frost) Silva. He grew up in MA mostly on Martha's Vineyard with 7 siblings all deceased: Donnie, Louise, Billy, Jack, Sheila, and Richie. He joked he was the "last man standing" in his immediate family.
James is survived by his former wife of 18 years: Margaret (Lincoln) Silva; three children: Lisa, Ron and his wife Hayley, Deanna and her husband James; and 7 grandchildren: Frazer, Jessica, Casey, Quinn, Kai (Ron's children), Evan and Emma (Deanna's children).
James served in the Marines from February 1960 through February 1963. He held several jobs throughout his life in various occupations. He was most proud of rising to a high position at Leeman Labs. He joked that when the position above him came open, the next day he went in with a tie and "took the position" without being interviewed.
Throughout his lifetime, he lived in MA, ME, SC, and FL. He loved the warmer weather and cursed the Maine winters. He made lasting relationships where ever he went.
James will be missed by many including Pumpkin, his loyal walking companion when visiting New England in the summer. His sideways humor as Terri pointed out will be sorely missed. She remembered when he would walk into the breakroom declaring "all rise" as if he were majesty or a great judge. James interests were politics, stocks, human behavior, genealogy, Bob Ross, and Jerry Yarnell. He was a great debater and intellectual.
James will be sorely missed. He will be reunited with lost loved ones. He will be gone but not forgotten.
A memorial Mass will be said for James on Saturday, September 25th at 4 PM at St. Martha's Church located at 30 Portland Road, Kennebunk, ME 04043.
