

Janice M. Littlejohn, 88, passed away peacefully on April 9th, 2014, after a short stay at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. Janice was born on March 18, 1926 in her grandparents’ home in Westbrook. She was the daughter of Burnham and Beulah Smith. She graduated from Westbrook High School in 1944, and that same year married William J. Littlejohn, of Scarborough. The couple resided in Scarborough for many years with their two daughters. Janice is pre-deceased by her husband, William Littlejohn, and her daughter Margaret “Peggy” Littlejohn. Janice worked with her husband at Pleasant Hill Nurseries in Scarborough through the 1960’s. She also worked at the Westbrook Superintendent’s Office and the Maine Credit Union League before retiring in 1986. She continued some part time work after retiring, including gathering stories for publication in the Scarborough and Gorham Notes social columns in the American Journal.
Janice enjoyed flowers, gardening, traveling, and bird watching with her longtime friend, the late Russell Parker of Cumberland. Above all, Janice loved her family. She will be sadly missed by all that knew and loved her dearly, especially her family and her extended family.
Janice is survived by her daughter, Nancy St.Clair (Littlejohn), son-in law David St.Clair Jr., grandchildren Jennifer Gilbert, Kimberly Gilbert, and Daniel Gilbert, all of Cumberland.
Visiting hours will be Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 4:00PM-7:00PM at Jones Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home at 199 Woodford Street, in Portland. The funeral service will be held at the First Congregational Church at 167 Black Point Road in Scarborough, on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 11:00AM.
