Born Jean Olive Chetley in St John, Canada, Jean was the daughter of David and Lillian Chetley. Jean immigrated to Maine as an infant and attended schools in South Portland, graduating Salutatorian in 1942. She proudly became a U.S. citizen in 1947. Jean and her late husband, Donald O. McCubrey, were married September 7, 1946 and moved to Falmouth where they resided for over sixty years.
Jean worked in the field of Market Research for over thirty years. Much of that time, she ran her own company. As a member of the Falmouth Congregational Church’s Women’s Guild, Jean helped with the parish suppers, church fairs and other church events. Jean sang in the choir for many years. An active member of the Women’s Woodfords Club, Jean enjoyed being with her friends, reading, gardening and traveling. For many years, she accompanied her husband, Donald, when he played for the Kora Temple Shrine Royal Guards.
Jean is survived by: her daughter, Ellen Ferland and her husband, Richard of Methuen, MA., two sons, Scott and his wife Claire of Standish, ME., and James of Greenville, N.C.; five grandchildren, Marc, Beth, Jeff, Raymond and Julie: and two great-grandchildren, Merrit and Brody; her brothers John Chetley and Murray Chetley; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Saturday, March 24, 2012 at 9:00-11:00 AM at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, Portland. A memorial service will follow at the funeral home at 11:00 AM with Rev. Phillip Shearman officiating.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at the Seaside Nursing Home and Fallbrook Assisted Living for all their kindness and caring for Jean and her family.
