Jeanette Sadie Layton Hall, 95 went to be with our Lord on May 25. She was born on June 5, 1920, the second daughter (born a few minutes before her identical twin sister June) of Frederick N. and Beatrice (Spicer) Layton. Jeanette grew up in South Portland graduating from South Portland High School in 1938. She attended Northeastern Business College where she met her husband Owen Hall. She went on to work for the City of South Portland in the city offices. Jeanette was a very active member of Woodfords Congregational Church for over 70 years. She sang in the choir as well as being a “ding-a-ling” in the bell choir. Ralph D. Caldwell American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star and Woodfords Club were where she put in many volunteer hours. Travel was her passion. She would go just about anywhere on a moment’s notice especially if there was the promise of a good meal. She travelled all over the continental United States, Alaska, London, England and especially many, many trips to Nova Scotia, Canada. Jeanette was very proud of her Canadian Heritage.
She was predeceased by her husband, Owen C. Hall, her twin sister, June McCubrey, her older sister, Stella Wentworth and her oldest son, Donald Hall. Surviving are a son, Frederick Hall, a daughter, Nancy June Cobb and her husband Jerry of New Gloucester; a daughter-in-law Carol Hall of South Portland; granddaughter Heidi Franklin, grandson Eric Hall, granddaughter Sara Cobb; and great-grandson Aiden Franklin.
