

Born April 27th, 1931, John grew up in Chicago, Illinois working in his father's butcher shop. John graduated from Valparaiso University in Indiana, joined the army, and was deployed overseas to fight in the Korean War. He was a recipient of the Bronze Star. He moved to Portland, Maine to pursue a career with Sunbeam Products in 1958. He continued to have a fondness for Chicago, and was an avid fan of the Cubs.
John joined First Lutheran Church in Portland where he met and then married Dorothy Adams in 1959. In addition to their time in Maine, John and Dot lived in Massachusetts, Ohio, and Vermont before returning to the Portland area in 1974. John was a devoted member of First Lutheran, a member of their choir, and served as a president of the church council.
John lost his wife, Dorothy, to cancer in 2011 after 52 years together. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Michael Schini, his son and son-in-law , John McVey and Mark Cascione, MD, his brother and sister-in-law Rick and Cindy McVey, his sister Gloria Frew, his grandsons Wesley and Adam Schini, his brother-in-law Earle Noyes, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law Donald and Pat Adams and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation is scheduled for July 7th from 4pm-6 pm at Jones, Rich, and Barnes. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 8, 2017 at First Lutheran Church in Portland, Maine.
