

Scarborough-John W. Olson age 89 formerly of Nevada Ave. in Portland died Friday July12, 2013 at the Maine Veterans Home. He was the son of James A. and Madeline C. (Nally) Olson. He served in the US Coast Guard through World War II. He was stationed partially on the Esopus Meadows Lighthouse in Port Ewen, NY and the USS Hurst in the Pacific. He was employed by the Portland YMCA for over 35 years as a maintenance worker. He retired from the YMCA in 1988. He was a member of the Harold T. Andrews Post #17 of the American Legion.
John was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Olson, his son in law Alan Mills, and his twin brother James A. Olson Junior.
John is survived by his daughter Mary Mills of Scarborough, his granddaughter Tracy Allen and her husband Troy, great grandsons Nathan Burchill and Cooper Allen, his grandson Brian Mills and his fiancé Sarah Place.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation of Tuesday Evening July 16 from 5 to 7 P.M. in the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland, Maine. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday July 17 at 11 A.M. in the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery.
