John Douglas Walker II — known fondly as Doak to many — passed away peacefully at Maine Medical Center on November 9, 2025. Born in Manchester, New Hampshire, John later moved and attended school in Maine. He graduated from Bowdoin College with a degree in religious studies and had the honor of being named an All-American baseball player.
Married in 1974, he adored his wife, Rhonda, who he affectionately called Lucille Ball.
Professionally, John dedicated 52 years to Rich Exterior Solutions before his well-earned retirement. He took great pride in the company, its work, and its people. Outside of work, he enjoyed golf at the Portland Country Club, grilling for family, having his best friend, John McCallum, over for “a touch” of wine, and cheering for his kids and grandchildren on the sidelines at their many games and events.
Previously a deacon at Woodfords Church, John was an active member of the community, acting as a chairman, president and/or board member of North Yarmouth Academy, 75 State Street, Deering Oaks Family Festival, Portland West Little League, Portland Country Club, and Play Ball Portland.
Known for his quick wit, kind heart, and unmistakable smirk, John had a way of making everyone around him feel at ease. He took great pride in his work and accomplishments, but his favorite roles in life were those of husband, father, and—most of all – Papa.
John was predeceased by his parents, Murdoch and Evelyn Walker. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Rhonda; their four children—Murdoch Walker II and his wife Krissia, JD Walker III and his wife Davan, Lucas Walker and his wife Meghan, and Jane Campbell and her husband Drew—and nine beloved grandchildren: Tres, Colin, Jack, Graeme, Katherine, Finn, Walker, Wyatt, and Henlee. He leaves behind his sister Catherine Levy and her husband Byron. He also adored his niece Ann and six nephews, John, Jason, Ryan, Matthew, Benny, and Griffin.

A memorial service will be held on November 20th at 11am at Woodfords Congregationalist Church.
