Joseph Joe C. Goodheart

Scarborough, ME – Joseph C. Goodheart, 87, of Buxton died Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. He was the husband of Anna M. (Dunnell) Goodheart.

He was born in Summit, NJ on October 19, 1922 a son of the late Malcolm and Catherine (Carroll) Goodheart. He was raised in New Jersey before joining the CC Camp and then the US Coast Guard.

On April 8, 1945, while serving in the Coast Guard, he married his wife Anna and shortly after moved to Maine, where they would raise four children. Joe was a bus driver for Metro Bus, formerly Portland Coach Co. for thirty three years before retiring in February of 1987.

Joe always kept in great shape, which started in his Coast Guard days where he was a boxer. He also belonged to several candlepin bowling leagues as well as some couple leagues with his wife. He also umpired for many years, doing High School and Men’s leagues games. He was also an active member in the American Legion.

Later in life his greatest pass time was his grandchildren and his great grandchildren.

Besides his wife of sixty five years he leaves his four children; Nancy J. White and her husband Robert of Poland, ME, Beverly A. Clark of Buxton and her husband the late Phillip Clark who died in March of 2006, Bonnie L. Mazerolla and her husband Daniel of Buxton, and Tom L. Goodheart and his wife Shirlene of Hollis. He also leaves 10 grandchildren and 18 Great Grandchildren, as well as a sister Evelyn Summers of New Jersey and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Henrietta Whitmore and Mike and Bill Goodheart.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Sunday, July 18, 2010 from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, Portland.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 19, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Philip Shearman officiating.

Burial will follow in Blanchard Cemetery, Falmouth.
