

Portland – Mabel M. McDonough, 94 passed away on Monday, December 12, 2011 after a brief illness. She was born in Gardiner, Maine on December 24, 1916 to the late Thomas and Thora (Thoralfsen) Stewart.
Mabel graduated from Portland High School. Mabels working career included Central Maine Power for 20 years and Sears Roebuck and Co. for 10 years. During WWII she assisted with the ship service dept of the Navy. Mabel participated actively in her community while she was able and took part in some of the referendum questions as a volunteer. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. One of the traits she carried with her over the years was a good sense of humor. It is to her credit that she was patient with the trials of aging generally as she had several illnesses including vision problems. Her family often recalls her great kindness. She will be missed by those relatives that survive her and her many friends.
She is predeceased by her first husband, Vernon Christensen who passed away in 1960, second husband, Edward F. McDonough who passed away in 1977; brothers and sisters who totaled seven and a number of nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her step-daughter, Carol Connolly; step-son, Edward F. McDonough, Jr.; sisters-in-laws, Ruth Stewart and Mildred E. Stewart with whom she lived during WWII; many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation Thursday, December 15, 2011 from 2-4 pm at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Funeral Service will be held Friday, December 16, 2011 at 10 am at Trinity Episcopal Church 580 Forest Ave. Portland with The Rev. Lawrence B. Weeks presiding. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
