

Westbrook – Norman Harry Mason “Mase”, 75 of Brook Street in Westbrook passed away on Monday February 13, 2017 at Maine Medical Center due to complications from diabetes. He was surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on March 6, 1941 in Littleton, NH a son of Lawrence P. and Helen V. Mason. The family moved to Kezar Falls, ME and then to Portland where he spent his childhood with his sister, Marie V. (Mason) McCann. He attended Portland schools, graduating from Deering High School in 1959. He worked at Mason’s Variety Store in Gorham where he met his wife Margaret (Hanson) Mason and married in 1963. They lived in Westbrook and had five children.
After the store, he worked as a commercial truck driver for several companies including Shaw’s Supermarkets & Clifford Perham Trucking Company in Scarborough where he received a Million Mile Club award. After his retirement in 2003, he enjoyed living on the small farm, being in the outdoors where he spent time gardening, operating the farm equipment and summertime haying. He loved feeding and observing the wildlife in his backyard such as deer, turkeys, and other wild birds. He also enjoyed talking about his children and twelve grandchildren. He will truly be missed by all that knew him.
Norman is predeceased by his wife, Margaret H. Mason. He is survived by his sister Marie V. McCann of Cumberland Foreside; and his ex-wife, Dorothy (Parker) Mason of Westbrook.
He is survived by his five children: daughters Julie-Anne and husband, Russell Burdick of Hudson, MA; Holly R. Mason and husband Damon Demady of Swampscott, MA; sons Randall J. and wife Hongxia Du Mason of Monument, CO; Lawrence N. and wife Andrea Mason of Gray; Adam S. and wife Heather Mason of Goffstown, NH; his 12 grandchildren: Alicia Sibley, Tyler Sibley, Zachary Mason, Anna Mason, Evangelina Burdick, Robert Mason, Christy Mason, Samantha Demady, Benjamin Mason, Elizabeth Demady, Katherine Demady, and James Demady; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family invites you to attend visiting hours to share your stories on Thursday, February 16th from 5:00 to 7:00pm at the Jones, Rich & Barnes Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Friday, February 17th at 10:00am followed by a Committal Service at Evergreen Cemetery, Stevens Avenue in Portland.
