Robert S. McKenney, Sr.

FALMOUTH -- Robert Stanley McKenney Sr., of Falmouth, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sept. 12, 2010. He was born on April 10, 1925, in Newton, Mass., to Fred and Effie McKenney. Bob served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and the Korean War. He married Merna Ernestine Rowe of Buxton on June 20, 1948.

Bob was raised in Wellsley, Mass.; spending summers sailing off the shore of his family's cottage on Cape Cod. He attended Williston Academy in Easthampton, Mass., and moved to Bar Mills to marry and raise his children on the family farm.

Following his military service, he became a steamfitter, moving to Falmouth to work for Acme Engineering of Portland. As Bob and Merna raised their family, they restored a wooden sailboat and put the love of the ocean into their children's blood. Bob also served as a volunteer fireman for many years.

Bob was a member of Windham Christian Life Center in Windham.

He is survived by his devoted wife; two daughters, Nancy L. Pollard and her husband Richard of Midland, Texas, Deborah M. Rose and her husband Richard of Durham, and two sons, Robert S. McKenney Jr. of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and William E. McKenney and his wife Nicola of Falmouth. Bob also leaves six grandchildren, Amy Arthur and her husband Wayne, Michael Pollard, Melissa Lopez and her husband Edward Maurice, Lindsay McKenney, Brigham McKenney, and Kimberly Brown and her husband James. Bob also has six great- grandchildren, Katriel, Evan, Malia, Emily, Jack and Caroline.

There are no public visiting hours scheduled. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Windham Christian Life Center, 628 Gray Rd. (Route 202), Windham. The Rev. Paul Morlock will officiate. A private burial will follow at Brooklawn Memorial Park.
