

She was born in Portland, Maine on May 13, 1961 to Elwyn and Dorothy (Dooley) Day and was raised in the Cornish area. She graduated from Sacopee Valley High School in 1980 and went on to obtain her CNA certificate. She was employed at 75 State Street, where she met the love of her life, Thomas Hilton, and they married in September 1993. Susan went on to work for Shalom House for several years. She was most recently employed at 7-11 in South Portland. Susan always enjoyed the residents, clients and customers she served.
Susan was a talented artist. She loved to draw, to create and to tell stories. She spent many hours of many days solving mysteries. She also spent many hours making blankets with thought and precision. She loved baking and cooking for and spending time with her two grandsons. She also loved those she worked with. Susan had a work ethic that was unmatched. Her heart was kind and true.
Susan was predeceased by her husband, Tom, in 2011. She leaves behind a son, Stephen Hilton, 27 of Portland, and his children Braiden and Zackery, her father Elwyn Day and wife Janice of Hiram, her mother Dorothy Littlefield, resident at South Portland Nursing Home and her husband Clifford, her brother, Michael Day and wife Lori of TX, her sisters, Ellen Faulkner and husband Stephen of Florissant, CO., and Karen James and husband Dennis of Cornish, along with several nieces and nephews
Calling hours are from 4:30-6:30 Tuesday, March 18, at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland, Maine all are welcome. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Susan’s name to Hospice of Southern Maine, 180 US Rte One, #1, Scarborough, ME 04074.
