

Thomas Stephen Casagrande, age 66, died in a tragic airplane accident on Saturday, July 17, 2010. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Stackhouse Casagrande, son, Ensign Matthew T. Casagrande, USN, 23, of Portland and Alexis K. Casagrande, 15, of Portland. He is also survived by his son Gray Casagrande (Tammy Casagrande) of Claxton, Georgia; his daughter, Tracy Casagrande Clancy (John Paul Clancy) and son, Steve Casagrande (Amber Casagrande) of Chattanooga, TN. He is also survived by grandchildren Aiden Clancy, Emily Casagrande, Maeve Clancy, Holland Clancy and Adella Casagrande and his brother, Paul Casagrande (Gail Casagrande) of Hazelton, PA. He is also survived by Art and Joan Stackhouse of Pownal, ME; Artie Stackhouse (Patricia, Ashlyn Stackhouse) of Roanoke, VA and Tommy Stackhouse (Bethany, Brendan Stackhouse) Lisbon Falls, Me.
Thomas “Tom” Casagrande was born on December 28, 1943 in Hazelton, Pennsylvania to Thomas E. Casagrande and Mary Ila Williams Casagrande. He graduated from West Hazelton High School in Hazelton, Pennsylvania and attended Penn State University prior to United States Army Flight School in Fort Rucker, Alabama. He served his first tour in Vietnam in 1966, flying UH-1 Huey helicopters. He then went on to serve a second tour in Vietnam flying reconnaissance missions. Tom dutifully served ten years for his country.
Following retirement from the Army, Tom served 20 years of service in the US Department of Defense as a civil service test pilot, retiring in 1995. He has logged more than 13,000 hours of flight time and was check out in over 190 various aircraft. Since retirement, Tom has remained active in local, regional, national and international flight training and education.
The memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 11am at Brooklawn Memorial Park in Portland, Maine. All who would like to pay their respects are welcome.
