I am so grateful for the years we had together. You will be missed. . . I'm glad that I was able to share, at least a tiny bit, of your passion for flying. I have never met a single person that possessed a molecule of the type of sincerity you had for aviation! Good thing for new pilots because there wouldn't be any books left on the shelves for them to buy. My memories of you will be cherished forever and passed down to my child who thought the world of you. Your love of Warbirds extends through the generations in our family. On 5-1-2010 I was able to get Emily (7 yrs old) up for her first ride in a B-25. I remember how truly excited you were when I told you she loved it, noise and all, and didn't want to get out of the airplane. You said "we  have another Warbird Freak in the family". Your sense of pride was overwhelming. That laugh. . . the happiness in your voice. . . knowing that your granddaughter was now baptized in the sounds and smells of those round engines that you loved so much. 

Words will never be able to describe how much I will miss you!! Tailwinds forever.

To Tom's family and friends; Please accept my heartfelt condolences on your loss.I mever met Tom, but felt I knew him thru my husband's letters and memories. I think they were probably the only two soldiers in the United States Army, who when asked what food they missed most from home, would answer 'Polenta'. I have mailed an old black and white photograph of two very young, very handsome men, leaning on a Huey in a place called Ane Khe, looking as if they did not have a care in the world to Tom's family along with the story about the Polenta. I wish for them and for so many others, an aircraft with no mechanical difficulties, good weather to fly her in and peace.

Tom, I enjoyed the hours we had. you listened to my passion with the same passion that you discussed your passion of flight. you accomplished more with wings than most can even dream.............

I have thought and prayed for your family since the accident. I am a friend of Mark Haskells and though i have never met "Tom" my heart is so heavy for both familys. Know that there is peace with God and many that you may not know are praying for all of you.

Tom was probably one of the finest pilot and person I have ever had the pleasure to know and fly with. Tom was always ready to help me and gave training that couldn't be matched. As a military test pilot he had flown everything in the military's arsenal. He trained me in my Fouga Jet and I could always sense his excitement every time we were around the plane. Tom probably had forgotten more than any of us will ever know about aviation. He provided me with the finest flight instruction and some of the greatest aviation stories you could ever get!
He will be sorely missed. My deepest condolences go out to his family.

Tom was a true American aviation classic. He was clearly a participant in life, doing what many can only dream about. While many go through life as a spectator, Tom was actively involved in pursuit of something he clearly demonstrated a passion for-aviation. My contact with Tom was within the aviation community, and I could easily see that he was more accomplished than he would let on. He was truely a modest individual who was focused on his passion for aviation.  My hearfelt condolences to the family and friends that Tom has left behind. Many of us appreciate his contrbution to aviation and the world we live in.  God Bless and Thank You for sharing your life with us..

My thoughts are with you and I truly feel for your loss.  I have such loving memories of Uncle Tommy.  My precious times with him were when I was growing up in Pennsylvania.  I remember his bright beaming smile; sitting on the cellar steps (he drew the best Santa Claus!); writing to him in Vietnam (spelling “to”as “ot”); a human skull on a bomber jacket…pride, but sorrow and pain; and the tremendous joy in finding love, having children, and pursuing his dreams.  Our family was always very proud of him and took great pleasure in sharing the stories of his accomplishments with others.  We will continue to do so.  He taught us all to value family and to love what you do and take pride in it.  Please take solace in the knowledge that he is in the loving embrace of God and family.

What a loss!  Tom was the consumate aviation advisor.  In one visit to his basement, no lets call it a Museum, he and I discussed how to qualify an RV-8 to acrobatic category. Everyone at Southern Maine Aviation at the Sanford Regional Airport wish to send love, prayers and warm thoughts to all who loved and knew Tom.

Uncle Tommy was always our mysterious, cool and glamorous uncle.  One of my earliest memories was of how cool it was to ride around, hunched down in the rear of his Nassau blue Corvette Sting Ray Coupe…even his car was cool (although it was a lot more fun to ride with him than with Nana, yes Nana Ila would sneak it out while he was away, claimed it was good for the car?) You know, there were no seat belts back there…How did we survive?

I turned 7 in 1966 when we moved to Drums and Uncle Tommy went off to war.  I didn’t quite understand what war meant, but I knew from overhearing the adult conversations that he was very brave because he was constantly in harm’s way.  With the knowledge that comes from age I realize that he was a lot braver than I ever knew.

On Christmas day in 1970, my paternal grandmother passed away.  As I was crying in my bed, my uncle came in and consoled me.  I still can see his face and hear his comforting words.  

I fondly remember when he made family visits to the cabin.  I remember how excited papap would get when he’d sneak up and buzz the cabin in a plane or copter.  Papap and Uncle Paul would get into the Chrysler and hightail it to the Hazleton airport.  I even got a ride in a bi-plane one time.  As we flew over the Butler Valley, he did some dive bomb runs over Route 81 and then a hammerhead stall.  As the dirt from the floor was hitting the bottom of my chin and the wind rushing around the wires made that distinctive whining sound, I understood why he loved to fly. 

Kathy, Alexis, Matt, Steve, Tracy and Gray, I know how painful this is for you.  I have no magic words that can take away this pain.  The only thing that I can share is Uncle Tommy’s words, said to me in 1970…  “(s)he would not want you to keep crying.  (s)he wants you to know that (s)he is with the Lord in Heaven and is happy and without pain.”  I will once again be thinking about his words.
