Alice Lucille (Hunter) Hoard was born October 18, 1936, in Portland, Ore., to Harry and Lola Hunter. She was raised in Portland, and attended Franklin and Oregon City High Schools. Alice worked in energy assistance for several years before finding her true passion as a housewife and mother.
On September 18, 1982, Alice married Leroy Hoard in Reno, Nev. The two met in a bar, started dancing, and, as Leroy puts it, “that was it.” Together, the couple raised ten children: Rita, Joe, Barry, Bill, Lisa, Randy, Rhonda, Roxanne, and Rusty.
Alice enjoyed many hobbies. She could often be found working on crossword puzzles, watching soap operas, or shopping on the Quality Value Convenience (QVC) shopping network. Family and friends frequently referred to her as the “QVC Queen.”
Alice decorated for every holiday, and enjoyed hosting big holiday meals. She encouraged her family to invite acquaintances that may not have anywhere to go, or were less fortunate. She would ensure that everyone had plenty to eat, packing extra plates of food to send home so no one went hungry. Many will remember her cooking, especially her fried chicken and potato salad, which was arguably the best in the world.
Above all, Alice loved her family. She was so proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She lived for her family, and they will remember her as a devoted, generous, and loving woman.
Alice passed away December 31, 2022, in McMinnville, Ore., with loving family at her side. A funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, January 19, 2023, in Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery.
Alice is survived by her husband, Leroy Hoard; children, Rita, Joe, and Barry; stepchildren, Randy, Rhonda, Roxanne, and Rusty; and many loving grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her children, Bill and Lisa; and sister, Violet.
