She and her identical twin sister were born in Covelo, CA. They were born from Alta Alice and Phillip Carl Bauer.
After the loss of both natural parents, the twins were adopted by David and Dorothy Mayer and moved at the age of 7 to Santa Rosa, Ca .
Alta graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1946.
During high school, Alta worked at the family diner and the family-owned Brookside Market.
Alta and Bert (Aldelbert) were married in Reno, Nevada in 1953. They moved up to Oregon and in 1965, bought their home in Aloha, Or., and raised 5 children.
Alta worked and retired from Tektronics in Beaverton, Or.
Alta is survived by her son, Jim Bettis; her daughter, Tracy Giese; grandsons, Brian Corey, Trevis, Joseph, and Chad Bettis; granddaughters, Rebecca Miller, Jennifer Giese, and Nicole Huffman, many great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held at Skyline Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in the Skyline Chapel, located at 4101 NW Skyline Blvd., Portland, OR. The Memorial Service is scheduled for Monday, November 24, 2025, at 12:00 pm.
Interment will be held privately for the family.
