

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., June 29, 2017 at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Portland, for Alyce Carlson
who died June 18, 2017 at age 91. Recitation of the rosary will precede this service at 10:30 a.m.
Alyce Opal Haugen was born near Ryder, N.D., Oct. 9, 1925, the daughter of Knute O. Haugen and Iva Strang Haugen.
She graduated in 1943 from Ryder High School and attended Minot State College. She married Norel Carlson of Des Lacs,
N.D. They lived in Minot, N.D., where their eight children were born. The family moved to Portland in 1969. There, Mrs.
Carlson did child day-care in their home for 30 years.
Mrs. Carlson was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister, Pearl; and daughter, Julie Ann Eubanks. She is survived by her seven children and their spouses, Carolyn (Larry) Zaback, Vancouver, Wash., Janet (Tom) Moore, Pacific City, Ore., Allen (Deb) Carlson, Washougal, Wash., Cindy (Rick) Snell, Portland, Jerry (Geri) Carlson, Vancouver, Wash., Tony (Lisa, deceased), Portland, and Tom Carlson, Portland. She has 19 grandchildren, multiple great and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Lois (Al, deceased) Buran of Grand Forks, N.D.; brothers, Orleane (Helen, deceased) Haugen of North Palm Beach, Fla., Donald (Donna) Haugen, Minot N.D., and Lawrence (Judy) Haugen of
Fort Collins, C.O.
