Andre was one of my Union brothers and one of my favorite teachers. Being in the apprenticeship can be full of hard lessons and lots of mistakes, as well as learning a new language of terminology. Journeymen can be impatient, harsh and cruel at times. Andre was always very compassionate and patient toward me. He always made sure to explain things to me and gave me positive encouragement. He scolded me as I needed it but never hounded me. He even gave me rides when my car broke down. For this he has always been someone I look up to and was what I considered a good friend of mine.

The Holidays just won’t be the same 😢.

Thank you for being a part of my life. God intentionally puts people in our lives when good things come out of it.  I especially appreciate you for your love, care, and concern for those Irvings across the street, how you allowed your sons to assist dad and mom while they grew older and tasks became quite difficult for them.
 I've always felt comfort in knowing that while us kids were away, you  and Sarita always kept a watchful eye on them. 
Your untimely passing has left a great void in the lives of all  that knew and loves you...you will be greatly missed. Like many others, Sarita, we are here for you Justin and Jalien, especially in these difficult times. The scripture admonishes us that we 'comfort one another with the same comfort wherewith God comforts us!'

I've been so lucky to be one of Sarita, Jaelin, and Justin's neighbors, and to get to know Andre over these last couple decades. 

No matter if I was having a great day or struggling through a tough one, whenever I ran into Andre, usually as he was packing up his truck to do something fun with his family, he nearly always took a few minutes to check in, share a smile, and connect somehow.

Andre's smile, his heart, his curiosity, his care, and his love for everyone - even nerdy neighbors - who he seemed to meet will stay with me forever.

My heart is with everyone who's missing Andre today, especially his family and close friends. Strength and love to you all as everyone touched by Andre's soul begins to grieve and heal.

Dear Andre...

I've lived across the street from your boys Jaelin and Justin for 11 years. I've watched them grow from cute little kids to purposeful young men. And all along that journey, that I've had the privilege to get a peek at, I've seen you there. Always your gigantic truck parked outside. Always with your boys. I don't know how many sweet and funny conversations I've had with you on the block, too many to count but all of them a bright spot in my day. And you always took the time to make my son laugh, too. You are so beloved on this block! (I so regret that I never had any of your cooking all these years!)

MeeMeeee!! MeMe babysat me. My big cousin would say "you better come in the house or IMA throw you in that dog pit with that Doberman." I remember thinking, "okay this could be bad".  Then another time my big cousin told me not to go outside because I had to get my hair combed (my big cousin combed my hair for goodness sakes).  Of course I go outside anyway because I wanna play with the neighbor and ride my bigwheel. MeMe tore my @$$ up. I need to learn to follow directions or something. It seems just like just yesterday we were celebrating birthdays and the boys would make you the  homemade cards with misspelled words :-)  The joy of being young.  Andre,  it didn’t take much to make you happy. You  were always proud of them. You loved and cherished them. It would be you and the boys joyriding in the truck. People come up to me to this day and say “yes”,  I remember Andre, he always had his two boys with him.

As I heard news of your passing,  I was in disbelief.  You had just chaired a meeting 2 weeks prior, sharing your experience, strength and hope. I met you through my good friend Felicia and started calling you "cuzin". You were kind, smart and always had a positive attitude. Even though I only  knew you for such a short time your presence , your smile and your laughter will be missed. Thank you for being you! 

P.s. definitely gonna miss your barbecue too, cuz you know Felicia can't BBQ. Lol

These carhartts  are not just  for working.  Andre enjoyed them and wore them quite often. They came in handy for other  activities as well.  He also had a nice black pair that he would iron and crease. He would wear them  with his “cowboy”  boots when he went out on the town.

Andre Thomas was a Fine Craftsman, a True Master  Carpenter. He enjoyed working with his hands. 

 He was true to his co-worker's, employer’s , friends and family. He  ALWAYS put out his best.   He was a leader, mentor,  “Brother” in the Union and the “Go-To-Guy” for many. 

He always gave you facts. When it came to work , he did not mess around.

Andre will be missed in MANY ways to MANY people.  If you were lucky enough to have work done by him, CHERISH IT.
