Anne Elizabeth O’Malley passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at her home in Portland, Oregon on January 13, 2019. She was born in Munich, Germany to Martin and Elizabeth O’Malley. During her childhood, the family lived in Germany, Turkey, Iran, and Canada before settling in the Portland area. Anne graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School and went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree at Portland State University. While pursuing a Master’s in Public Health and eventually a law degree at the University of Houston, she studied in Germany on a prestigious Fulbright Scholarship.
Anne lived and practiced law in the St. John’s neighborhood of Portland for a number of years before serving in Moldova and Romania in the American Bar Association’s Central and Eastern European Law Initiative. Her work with CEELI focused largely on environmental protection and regulation.
She returned to Portland and worked in Public Relations for Portland Habilitation Center, where she discovered a passion for the work of nonprofit organizations. Anne founded Strategies and Affairs, a firm specializing in advising nonprofits. During that time she was also instrumental in founding a reentry center for people recently discharged from prison.
Anne served the community on numerous boards and supported many organizations. She had a passion and commitment to helping others and making the world a better place.
Anne loved to travel and was a voracious reader and consumer of Ted Talks. She is preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Elizabeth O’Malley. She is survived by sister Katy O’Malley and her two sons Sebastian and Gabriel Feine, and brothers Matthew and John O’Malley of Portland, Oregon.
A lifelong animal lover, the family requests that you make donations in her name to the Oregon Humane Society in lieu of flowers. A wake will be held at Anne’s home on January 19, 2019 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
