She was born to George and Inga Harlan at home on the farm and was the sixth of seven sisters. Although she spent the first 3-4 decades of her life in Minnesota, she and her family moved to the Milwaukie, Oregon area where she resided for the remainder of her life. As a mother and wife, her talents were immense. She was an amazing seamstress, often sewing entire Easter outfits complete with matching coats for her three daughters. She could whip up a costume overnight. She harvested beautiful flowers, organic fruits and vegetables from her garden every year. She was very creative and an amazing tole painter. She held various executive secretary positions including a long running job at Cranston Machinery. She also sold real estate towards the end of her career.
She met Ted Rose, the love of her life in her later years. They had fifteen wonderful years together before he passed away. She was very active as a member of the Oak Grove Garden Club, Oak Grove Methodist Church, PEO, and in a variety of book clubs, Bunko groups and other social and philanthropic activities.
She is survived by her son and daughters; Gary (Tish), Gail (Bruce), Sue (Ron), Laurie (John). Her grandchildren: Terra (Paul),Megan (Max), Jack (Karissa), Paige (Mark), Claire, Renee(Bill), and Shelby along with twelve great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Theodore Rose and her siblings.
She is loved and missed, but we celebrate her and a life well lived. A service for family only will be held at a later date. Lincoln Memorial is handling the burial at Willamette National Cemetery where she will be reunited with Ted once again.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oregon Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
