

Carolyn’s life journey was one of exploration and dedication, leading her through various states including Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Washington, Oregon, and Arizona. She pursued her education at St. Cloud State Teachers College and Portland State University. Carolyn devoted a significant portion of her life to education, leaving an enduring impact as an elementary school teacher. Her passion for nurturing young minds extended to diverse communities, including American Indians, Hispanic migrants, and a Russian Orthodox community. Beyond her role as an educator, Carolyn was a loving and devoted mother to seven children.
Throughout her lifetime, Carolyn experienced the joys of companionship through marriages with James W. Riley and Paul N. Poetsch. She is survived by her children Deborah R. Hall, Robert W. Poetsch, and John R. Poetsch, Kay Lynn Olsen, Paul Poetsch, Carol King, Jim Poetsch, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be held at Lincoln Memorial Park and Funeral Home on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at 2 pm, where Carolyn will be laid to rest. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to your local animal shelter, reflecting Carolyn’s love for animals.
Carolyn will be remembered for her indomitable spirit, zest for life, and infectious laughter. She approached life with a radiant smile and had a passion for rug hooking and painting. Her love extended to children and dogs, and she was an avid traveler who cherished exploring new places.
In celebrating Carolyn Joyce Poetsch’s life, we honor a remarkable woman whose warmth, love, and joy touched the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the memories of a life well-lived.
