Charlie was born to Kit and Sandy Curry and grew up in Okoboji, Iowa with his little brother Jesse. The family moved to Gresham, Oregon when Charlie was 10. Charlie was a talented baseball player at Centennial High School and was drafted by the Atlanta Braves out of High School but went on to play for Mount Hood Community College where he was named athlete of the year in 96-97. He also played for Portland State University and Jacksonville State University. He obtained a degree from PSU in Psychology in 2004. Charlie was an employee of the Clackamas Costco for 20 years working in various departments. Charlie met the love of his life, Rebekah (Becky) Frederick, in 1997 and they were married in 2003. They welcomed their daughter Audrey in 2007 and their second daughter Leah in 2010. Charlie was a fiercely devoted family man who loved his wife and often lavished her with surprising gifts each year. She never knew what he would come up with next. She finally put her foot down when he bought her a brand-new car and said from now on, he needed to discuss these things with her. Anyone who knew Charlie, knew that he absolutely loved being a dad to his two girls and having them was the highlight of his life. For several years, he has coached his daughter Audrey’s softball teams and he has been a huge support of Leah’s gymnastics ambitions traveling large distances to watch her meets. Charlie never met a stranger and it was a rare occurrence that he wouldn’t see someone he knew everywhere he went. Charlie was an avid fisherman and loved to spend time with his brother Jesse, who was his best friend, and other family and friends fishing and crabbing on the Oregon Coast. He often took trips with his brother back to Okoboji, Iowa to fish with and spend time with his grandparents and extended relatives. Charlie was a diehard Brewers, Raiders and Bucks fan and absolutely loved Ichiro. Charlie loved to play poker and often surprised Becky with major winnings from online poker games. Charlie loved to sing karaoke and was not afraid to cut a rug at 80’s dance party nights, or any dance party night for that matter. He enjoyed participating in Fantasy Football and March Madness and was well known for his great barbecue and gravy making skills.
Abraham Lincoln once said that “In the end, it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” Everyone who knew Charlie knew that he lived his life and loved his family in such a way that every day mattered and the people he left behind are blessed for having known him.
Charlie will be forever missed, and his legacy will go on in those he leaves behind. He was preceded in death by his Grandfather Dean Curry. He is survived by wife, Becky Curry; daughters, Audrey and Leah Curry. He leaves behind his parents, Kit and Sandy Curry; brother, Jesse Curry; his wife Nikalia and children, Shane, Hunter, Braden and Khloe; Grandmother, Sally Curry; Father and Mother in Law, Randy and Diane Frederick; Brother in law, Isaac Frederick; his wife Mileah and children Eli and Micah Frederick; and several other aunts, uncles and cousins and of course the family dog, Dexter.
