Charlotte was born to Howard and Marjorie Springsteen on July 15, 1945, in Carlsbad, California. The youngest of three children, she grew up in a small home along the California coastline, just a short walk from the Pacific Ocean. Throughout her life, she spoke fondly of those early years by the water and the sense of freedom and wonder they gave her.
She graduated from Carlsbad High School in 1963 and went on to attend a few semesters of junior college. In 1965, she began a new chapter when she married Ken Lester. Shortly after their wedding, the two moved to Oregon, and she remained in the Pacific Northwest for the rest of her life. Together, she and Ken raised three children—Michael, Kelley, and Kari.
Her marriage to Ken ended in 1992, and in 1996 she remarried, joining her life with Robert Mason. The two made their home in Vancouver, Washington, where they lived together until Robert’s passing in 2023. She is survived by her three children, eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
Charlotte found joy in quilting, knitting, and sewing, often working on more than one project at a time. For several years, she participated in quilting clubs and seminars around the Portland–Vancouver area, and she volunteered her time and talents to Project Linus, creating handmade blankets for children in need.
Memorial services will be held at Lincoln Memorial Park and Funeral Home at 11:00 AM on April 3rd. She will be laid to rest with her husband, Bob, in Willamette National Cemetery.
