Chris Steven Smith was born on July 24th,1955 to Dennis H. Smith and Lola Marie Smith in Portland, Oregon. He was the fourth of six children and the eldest boy. He spent his childhood on “the ranch” in Manning, Oregon. Where he and his siblings lived the good life; helping tend animals, being outdoors, going to school, and learning from their loving family.
As childhood drew to a close and adulthood approached, he attended Roosevelt in his last year of High School then immediately entered the workforce as a Traveling Magazine Salesmen. This endeavor took him to a lot of the United States, traveling as far as Texas, Alabama & other states along the way. After returning home to Oregon, Chris met Renee Kline in a Montgomery Wards retail store and the two were married on May 24, 1977 to March of 1988. During their union, Chris and Renee, started a family and had three children, Matthew, Steven, and Aleisha. Chris also began his lifelong love of games at this time, starting with Atari!
While raising his young family and working in the Carpenters Union (where he has had a hand in construction of many buildings in the Portland area); Chris earned his Bachelors of Science in Automated Manufacturing from ITT in 1987. With this education he started his career at Intel as a Machine Technician in Aloha, Oregon where he repaired complex fab equipment. It was at the “fab” that he met and married Pamela Burt from July 12, 1990 to May of 1993 during which time they had a son, Nathaniel.
Chris continued to further his career at Intel and around 1995 became a Validation Engineer where he developed testing circuits (some highly classified) for Intel’s motherboards. As computer technology advanced Chris’ love of games also advanced with the games “Civilization” and “Age of Empires” quickly becoming his favorites. Star Trek Next Generation also debuted and became a fixture in Chris’ life!
It was during a sabbatical from Intel, that by happenstance a broken window occurred by one unnamed son, led Chris to meet his love, Treva Len Eacret, in a glass retail shop in Hillsboro, OR. The two “just knew” and married on September 16th, 2000. Chris again expanded his family with this marriage by getting the opportunity to be a stepfather to Mindy, Anita, Leanne, and Craig; bringing the count of children he loved to eight. In 2004 Chris decided it was time to further his education and went back to school to earn his master’s degree. In 2006 Chris graduated from the University of Pheonix with a master’s degree in business management. Chris retired as a Hardware design and Validation Engineer after 30 years of service to Intel. In his retired life he and Treva built a home together, enjoyed their grandchildren, and became world travelers; visiting Japan, France, and Italy.
Chris was the definition of helpful, kind, and generous, especially to his family. You could always count on Chris to lend a hand with a project, save you while in distress, or get you out of a financial pickle. He was never short on projects and took any chance he could to build. A love he gave to his children.
After a short battle with lung cancer Chris Steven Smith, 67, of Banks, OR, passed away on February 13th 2023 in Hillsboro, Oregon.
