Clarice Marion Barrett, 96, a long-time resident of Portland, passed away peacefully at her home, Saturday the 21st of January. She was born the 7th of 14 children in 1920 to Julius and Emma Balken in Rothsay, Minnesota. In 1940 she moved to the Pacific Northwest and worked through World War II as a true "Rosie the Riveter”. Eventually she spent her professional career as both a receptionist and supervisor for Kaiser Permanente for over 30 years. She loved baking, crocheting, gardening and antique shopping. Clarice is survived by her brothers, Jerome and Loren; sister, Jane Griffin; sons Paul and Douglas; daughter, Carol Padden; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Clarice was preceded in death in 1998, by her loving husband Donald J. Barrett. A Funeral Services followed by reception will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 28th, at Finley-Sunset Hills Mortuary, Portland, Oregon.
