Clay Frederick Jones, 72, of Portland, Oregon, passed away unexpectedly on November 18, 2024. Born on November 11, 1952, in Portland to Stanley and Mary Jones, Clay was raised in the city he loved. He was a proud graduate of Franklin High School, Class of 1971.
In 2016, Clay married Donna (DeeDee) Knuth in Maui, Hawaii, after meeting through mutual friends in 2000. Together, they shared a loving, joyful life.
Clay’s family was his world. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he cherished every moment spent with his family, especially his grandson, Jordy. Clay was a constant presence at Jordy’s sporting events, rarely missing a game and always cheering him on. He also shared his love for family gatherings, whether watching Packers games, goofing off, or simply spending time together. His son, Chad, fondly remembers his dad as not only a father but his very best friend, calling him a “lovable smart ass” with a sense of humor that could always brighten the room. Clay’s playful nature and laughter will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Clay had many passions. He loved the water and spent countless hours boating, kayaking, and enjoying the sun at beaches and lakes. A die-hard Green Bay Packers fan, he would never miss a game, often watching with family and friends. He also loved golfing, though chronic back and knee pain eventually caused him to stop. Clay was known for his resourcefulness, able to fix nearly anything—though sometimes in his own way. He also enjoyed cooking, often preparing meals that were loved by his family, even Hamburger Helper, which he could turn into something extraordinary.
A man of great kindness and generosity, Clay was always ready to help others, whether it was fixing something around the house or offering a kind word. He answered the phone with a signature “Yo!” and was known for his technical fouls at basketball games and his loving, caring nature. His sense of humor and warmth touched everyone he met, and his legacy will live on through his family.
Clay is survived by his wife, Donna (DeeDee) Jones; son, Chad Jones (wife Katie); grandson, Jordy Jones; brothers, Mark Jones (wife Carla), Paul Jones, and Reid Jones (wife Connie); stepdaughter, Heather Lindquist; stepson, Ryan Coddington; step-grandchildren, Trey and Deija Smith; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and extended family and friends.
A memorial service in Clay’s honor will be held on Saturday, December 14th at 1:00 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 11801 SE Mt. Scott Blvd., Portland, OR 97086.
In honoring Clay’s memory, we remember him as the loving man he was—thoughtful, humorous, and always ready to lend a hand. His family will forever carry on his legacy of love and laughter.
