Cliff was born in Lenox, Iowa. His family moved to Oregon when he was four years old and settled in the Salem area. He graduated from Turner High School in 1950. When Cliff retired from Restaurant Service and Sales in 1994, he moved to Rockaway Beach. He immediately became involved in his community, joining the Rockaway Lions, getting involved in the North County Food Bank and being elected President of Brighton Water Company.
He was a a SMART reader and a Lunch Buddy at Nehalem Grade School. As a member of the North Oregon Coast Symphony Board, he excelled as a fundraiser. He cared deeply about his community and as President of the Lions Club in 2003, he stared projects to beautify Rockaway Beach. The restoration of Seaview Lake and Park was his greatest endeavor and one which he was rightfully proud of. In 2013 he received the Tillamook County Futures Council: Economy Award. Only his diminishing health slowed him down. His wife was at his side when he succumbed to the effects of congestive heart failure. We are indebted to staff at Seaside Providence Hospital and Tillamook Hospice for their compassionate care.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Peters; his children Debbie (Will) Steeprow, Allen (Melinda) Gunderman, Sandy (Rick) Rehman, Greg Gunderman, Susan Rothe; step children Diane (Neil) Niemeyer, Jan (Rob) Roth, Kate Coen, David (Shannon) Sillimanite; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and his loving dog, Pika.
A Celebration of Cliff's Life will be held on Sunday, June 14, at 1pm, at the Rockaway Lions Club, 268 S Anchor St, Rockaway Beach, OR.Donations may be made to the Rockaway Lions Club Community Improvement Fund.
